Welcome to HISD New Teacher Academy!*

Be equipped, enriched, and prepared for the 2019-20 school year starting with HISD's New Teacher Academy where you will be introduced to HISD processes, resources, and expectations.

This professional learning opportunity will equip you with:

* If you are not a full-time teacher of record (i.e. associate teachers, lecturers, instructional specialists), you do not need to attend this professional development series. You may contact your campus supervisor for further professional development opportunities.

Location - Kingdom Builders' Center (KBC) 6011 W Orem Dr, Houston, TX 77085.

Training Stipend - Newly Hired, Full-Time HISD Teachers, Nurses or Librarians are eligible to receive a $100 training stipend per FULL DAY of attendance at New Teacher Academy.

Attendance - You must SIGN IN and SIGN OUT each day of training to be eligible for professional development credit and training payment stipend.

Parking - Free parking is available. Make sure to build in time for parking; we recommend carpooling, if possible. Overflow parking for the Kingdom Builders' Center is located at 6000 Heatherbrook Dr, Houston TX 77085. Shuttle buses will be available to transport you to/from KBC.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) (June 4 -July 23 multiple offerings/dates) -Mandatory for all teachers new to HISD. It is highly encouraged for you to register for a session prior to New Teacher Academy so that you can have a small group experience. As an HISD classroom teacher, you are eligible to receive $50 training stipend per completion of this half-day training.

YOUniversity Summer Bridge (June – July multiple offerings/dates) - This series includes a comprehensive menu of professional development sessions for teachers to acquire and refine skills in instructional effectiveness, education technology, data-driven instruction using HISD technology tools (OnTrack, HISD Connect) and social-emotional learning. These sessions are voluntary and unpaid.

New Teacher Academy (Aug 6 – Aug 9) – Learn about HISD processes, resources, and expectations, including engaging choice sessions designed with your needs in mind and receive information essential to new employees. Newly Hired, Full-Time HISD Teachers, Nurses or Librarians are eligible to receive $100 training stipend per FULL DAY of attendance at this event.
